Effective graphic design has many interworking components that help the graphic become functional, engaging, and simple. Typeface, font, color, visual hierarchy, and visual cues primarily help to make a functional graphic, though many of those elements can also make the graphic simple and engaging as well. Graphic space and choice, contrast, and grouping help create a simple, clean graphic, but they too can be used to create function. Excitement, enhancement, visualization, and storytelling help to create a design that's not only functional, but engaging. All of these elements help designers create the most effective design for the job.
